Terms of Use

These terms apply whenever you browse or use Orange County Criminal History. By continuing, you accept the conditions below. The resource is privately operated, is not a North Carolina government service, and supplies general directions to official record custodians and outside tools.

NO FCRA USE. This private website has no affiliation with any government body and is not a consumer reporting agency. Neither it nor its advertising partners offers a service for credit, employment, insurance, tenant, or any other decision governed by the Fair Credit Reporting Act. It exists to help readers locate criminal-record resources in Orange County, North Carolina.

1. What This Website Is

Orange County Criminal History is an independent reference site. It cannot retrieve official records, file forms, or perform official checks, and it does not maintain government databases.

Its pages direct readers to the Orange County Sheriff, General Court of Justice, North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, Department of Adult Correction, and North Carolina Sex Offender and Public Protection Registry. Outside tools may also be linked for optional research.

2. Rules for Using This Site

Use is conditioned on lawful, respectful conduct.

  • Do not violate federal, North Carolina, or local law
  • Do not stalk, threaten, or harass another person
  • Do not use content for hiring, housing, lending, or insurance decisions
  • Do not bypass security or seek unauthorized system access
  • Do not operate bots, scrapers, or automated collection tools
  • Do not disrupt the service or interfere with another visitor

3. No Harassment, Stalking, or Discrimination

Information reached through this site must not be used to harass, stalk, intimidate, threaten, or unlawfully discriminate. The same restriction applies to the North Carolina Sex Offender and Public Protection Registry. Registry information is for safety awareness, not vigilantism or blacklisting, and misuse may violate law.

4. We Are Not a Consumer Reporting Agency

We do not prepare consumer reports, credit reports, or background reports and are not a consumer reporting agency under the FCRA. The site and linked partner tools may not be used to:

  • Make a hiring or termination decision
  • Evaluate a renter or housing application
  • Set insurance terms or judge creditworthiness
  • Decide eligibility for a license, permit, or public program
  • Carry out any other FCRA-regulated purpose

A legally required official check must be obtained through the proper official or FCRA-compliant channel.

5. No Legal Advice

General explanations of Orange County records are not legal advice. A North Carolina lawyer should address how expunction, a warrant, a pending charge, or a judgment applies to an individual case.

6. No Warranties

The service and all content are supplied "as is." No promise is made that:

  • Information will always be complete, accurate, or current
  • The service will remain continuously available
  • Every page will be free of technical or security defects
  • An outside search result will be accurate or comprehensive

Charges, dispositions, access rules, and expunction status can change. Site content is never an official statement from the Orange County Clerk, Sheriff, SBI, or another government office.

7. Third-Party Services and Links

Links can lead to courts, law-enforcement agencies, public offices, legal resources, and independent search services. We do not control their content, availability, fees, data practices, or terms. Review the destination's rules before using it.

8. Intellectual Property

Text, graphics, logos, and code are owned by Orange County Criminal History or its content partners. They may not be copied, changed, distributed, or adapted without prior written permission.

9. Limits on Our Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by North Carolina law, we are not responsible for loss arising from use of the site, including reliance on information supplied here or by a linked service.

10. Indemnification

You agree to hold us harmless from claims, proceedings, demands, and related legal costs caused by your use of the site or violation of these terms.

11. Governing Law

North Carolina law governs these terms. Any dispute connected with use of the site must be brought in a court with proper jurisdiction in North Carolina.

12. Changes to These Terms

We may revise these conditions. A new version takes effect when it is posted here.

13. Cutting Off Access

Access may be restricted or ended at any time, for any reason, without advance notice.

14. Severability

If one part of these terms is held invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue. The affected clause will be narrowed only as much as needed.
